Restaurants directly in Baixa/Chiado tourist zones are often lower quality and higher priced than those a few blocks into residential neighborhoods like Alfama or Graça.
What things cost
A casual local lunch ("prato do dia") typically costs €8-12 including a drink, and is both cheaper and often better than tourist-menu options.
Worth knowing
Belém's major sights (Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower, the original Pastéis de Belém bakery) are a separate district from central Lisbon, roughly 30 minutes by tram/bus — worth planning as a half-day trip rather than an add-on.
Dietary notes
Vegetarian options have expanded significantly in Lisbon in recent years, concentrated especially around Príncipe Real and Intendente; traditional tascas (local taverns) are more limited.
Practical
Portugal uses the Euro. Many smaller local restaurants are cash-preferred or cash-only.
